Since October 2020, HEADA Sierra Leone has been supporting the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (US CDC) in strengthening Sierra Leone’s health system through the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA).
This initiative focuses on preventing, detecting, and responding to infectious disease threats, ensuring sustainability and resilience in public health systems across the country.
🔹 GHSA Framework – Adopted by 67 countries, including the United States, which remains committed to its strategic goals through GHSA 2024.
🔹 CDC’s Role – Leading GHSA implementation by working directly with partner governments to reduce the risk of infectious disease outbreaks.

This program is a collaborative effort between CDC, its partners, and other U.S. Government agencies, ensuring:
✅ Prevention – Reducing the risk of avoidable epidemics.
✅ Detection – Enhancing early warning systems for emerging threats.
✅ Response – Deploying rapid and effective interventions to contain public health crises.
Through multisectoral partnerships, this initiative builds national leadership in:
🔬 Surveillance – Strengthening disease monitoring & reporting.
🧪 Laboratory Systems – Expanding diagnostic capacity.
📚 Workforce Development – Training professionals in outbreak response.
⚡ Emergency Management – Enhancing preparedness for health crises.
This project supports key Healthy People 2030 objectives:
