A new milestone for pandemic preparedness in Cameroon.

In recent years, Cameroon has faced multiple public health threats, including COVID-19, cholera, mpox, Ebola, influenza, antimicrobial resistance (AMR), and other emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases. These challenges have underscored the urgent need for stronger systems to prevent, detect, and respond effectively to health emergencies.

The official launch of the Pandemic Fund-supported project, “Strengthening Cameroon’s One Health Capacity for Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness and Response“, marks a significant step toward building a more resilient health system capable of addressing these challenges through a coordinated One Health approach.

Bringing together government institutions, technical and financial partners, civil society organizations, and implementing partners, this landmark initiative reflects a shared commitment to strengthening collaboration across the human, animal, and environmental health sectors.

Over the next three years (2026-2029), the project will strengthen disease surveillance and early warning systems, reinforce multisectoral laboratory networks, enhance the capacity of the public health workforce and Rapid Response Teams, and improve emergency preparedness and coordination at both national and subnational levels.

By investing in stronger systems, skilled human resources, and multisectoral collaboration, this initiative will help build a more prepared, resilient, and responsive Cameroon better equipped to address current and future public health threats.

As one of the partners to the Ministry of health, HEADA reaffirms its commitment to supporting the successful implementation of this initiative and to working alongside government institutions, technical and financial partners to strengthen health security and advance the One Health agenda in Cameroon.
