Strengthening Influenza Surveillance System
The CDC Influenza Surveillance Program plays a crucial role in global health security by monitoring and mitigating the spread of influenza and other respiratory diseases. The program focuses on:
🔹 Early Detection & Response – Identifying outbreaks swiftly to contain transmission.
🔹Laboratory System Enhancement – Strengthening virologic detection capabilities.
🔹Global Collaboration – Supporting Cameroon’s participation in the Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (GISRS).
A One-Health Approach in Cameroon
In Cameroon, the program adopts a One-Health strategy, bridging human and animal health sectors. It collaborates with:
🔹 Ministry of Public Health – Directorate of Disease Control, Epidemics, and Pandemics.
🔹 Ministry of Livestock – Directorate of Veterinary Services.
🔹 Centre Pasteur du Cameroun – National Influenza Center.
🔹 LANAVET – Veterinary laboratory.
By reinforcing national influenza surveillance systems, this initiative enhances Cameroon’s preparedness and response to influenza threats.
Our Ongoing Commitment
Since 2021, HEADA has worked alongside the CDC and the Cameroonian government under a Cooperative Agreement (CoAg). This partnership was renewed on October 1, 2023, under the CDC Division of Influenza Surveillance, ensuring continued support for a stronger, more resilient health system.
