CDC Influenza Surveillance Project

CDC Influenza Surveillance Project

The objectives of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Influenza Surveillance Program are to conduct routine influenza and other respiratory disease surveillance in order to monitor, detect, respond, and mitigate transmission; improve laboratory systems for virologic detection and monitoring; and strengthen connections between national institutions in order to fully participate in the Global Influenza Surveillance and Response System (GISRS).

In Cameroon, the program supports the Ministry of Health (Directorate of Disease Control Epidemics and Pandemics) and the Ministry of Livestock (Directorate of Veterinary Services) to conduct a one-health approach human and animal influenza surveillance in collaboration with the Centre Pasteur of Cameroon (National Influenza Center) and the LANAVET (veterinary laboratory), as part of the strengthening of the national influenza surveillance system.

HEADA staff under a Cooperative Agreement (CoAg) with CDC, has been working since 2021 with the Cameroon government to achieve this mission. From October 1, 2023 onward, this CoAg has been renewed by the CDC Division of Influenza Surveillance and will continue be managed by HEADA.
